Holy Moly who all reads the Black Dagger Brotherhood books? I'm hooked on them and couldn't wait to get my hand on the latest one. The Chosen: A Novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood is the 15th book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J. R. Ward and it is just as good as all the others. I could not put it down and since I do some reading every day in carpool it makes the rest of my life pretty much go on hold until I can finish my book. I mean really most books I can start and stop but not when I start these. I have to finish. I am hooked as soon as I get started even with this one which I think was a bit darker then some of the recent ones.
If you don't know the Black Dagger Brotherhood books fall under the paranormal romance section in the bookstores and while they do have what I would say is a main couple in each book JR Ward really weaves the story of the Brotherhood and all of the other characters into the mix. That is part of what I think I really love about these stories is that in each book we get a bit of story from lots of different brothers and their Shellans (wives for us humans) and other characters that we have read about. The Brotherhood is a set of vampires who live among the world and protect their King Wrath and their species against the Lessers. I promise it makes sense when you get into it and even the bit of language that is their own just works the story into its own universe. We also get some of the overall arcing story in each one as well. This one I would say has a bit less of the over all story well until the end but you can see how it is setting up for the big final battle.
The main couple in this book is Xcor from the Band of Bastards and Layla one of the Chosen. We saw the start of their relationship in the last book and it comes full circle this time. With them being the main couple we also got info on Quinn and Blaylock, Trez, and even some Vishous. I can't wait to see what is to come with all of them. With the interwoven stories and all of the characters that we now have J.R.Ward has started an offshoot series called the Black Dagger Legacy which focuses on a new group of vampires that are going through the training program to be one of the fighters in the Brotherhood but since they are trained by the Brotherhood we get more little stories of the main guys that we already love. I think this is a great way to work in stories with all the characters their are in this world.
Have I lost you yet? Are you already a fan? I'd love to chat about the series as a whole or this book in-particular. I can really go on and on and on. Now I need to decide what book I'm going to read next. Any suggestions?
Happy Reading!
Jenny
